Yoghurt is a delicious and nutritious food that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways.
While store-bought yoghurt is convenient, making your own yoghurt at home can be a fun and rewarding experience.
Here’s a beginner’s guide to making homemade yoghurt that will make your taste buds sing :
Choose your milk: Yogurt can be made with any form of milk, including cow’s milk, goat’s milk, and plant-based milk. Simply ensure that it is fresh and pasteurised.
Heat the milk: In a saucepan over medium heat, heat the milk until it reaches 180°F. This helps to sterilise the milk and denature the proteins, which is necessary for creating yoghurt.
Let the milk to cool to 110-115 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the saucepan in a cold water bath to speed up the chilling process.
Add the starter culture : To the farm fresh milk, whisk in a small amount of plain yoghurt or a yoghurt starter culture.
Incubate the mixture by pouring it into a clean jar or container and covering it with a lid. Place the jar in a warm (about 100-110°F) location for 6-12 hours, or until the yoghurt has thickened.
Chill and serve : Once the yoghurt has set, place it in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving. You can top it with fruit, honey, granola, or whatever else you choose.
Why not give it a shot and see how your taste buds sings?
