Step 1: Fill your pitcher with cold milk. The amount of milk you use will depend on the size of your latte, but a good rule of thumb is to fill the pitcher about halfway.

Step 2: Purge your steam wand by turning it on for a few seconds to clear any residual water. Then, place the steam wand just below the surface of the milk and turn it on.

Step 3: As the milk begins to steam, lower the steam wand into the pitcher so that it’s submerged about halfway. This will create a whirlpool effect, which will help distribute the heat and create a smooth, velvety texture.

Step 4: Continue steaming until the milk reaches the desired temperature. For lattes, the milk should be heated to around 150-155°F.

Step 5: Once the milk is heated, turn off the steam wand and tap the pitcher on the counter to remove any large bubbles. Then, swirl the milk in the pitcher to create a smooth, creamy texture.

Step 6: If you want to add froth to your latte, tilt the pitcher slightly and position the steam wand just below the surface of the milk. Turn on the steam wand and froth the milk until it reaches the desired texture.

Achieving the Perfect Milk-to-Coffee Ratio

Step 1: Brew a shot of espresso using your preferred method. You can use a traditional espresso machine, a stovetop espresso maker, or even an Aeropress if you prefer.

Step 2: Pour the espresso shot into your mug.

Step 3: Hold the pitcher of steamed milk at a slight angle and pour it into the mug, using a spoon to hold back the foam. As you pour, try to create a design or pattern on the surface of the latte, like a heart or a rosetta.

Step 4: Once you’ve poured in the desired amount of milk, use a spoon to scoop the foam on top of the latte, creating a thick layer of froth.
